How do I set my availability on Showcast?
Go to Profile → Availability and mark specific dates you're unavailable (travel, other jobs). Default is available — just block out when you're not.
Showcast has an availability calendar so casting directors can filter for actors free during their shoot window.
To update:
- Log in and go to Profile → Availability (or Calendar).
- Mark dates you're unavailable. Default is available — you only block out when you're not.
- Note the type if relevant (booking, travel, personal).
What to block:
- Shoot dates you've booked on other jobs.
- Travel.
- Surgery, recovery, or major personal commitments.
- Theatre contracts. If you're in a run, your daytime availability may still be fine but night rehearsals might be a conflict.
What NOT to block:
- "Days I might have plans." Be liberal with your availability — most castings ask for 1-2 day shoots and you can reschedule personal stuff.
- Weeks you'd rather not work. If you show as unavailable too often, casting stops submitting you.
Why this matters:
Commercial breakdowns often filter by "available on [shoot date]". If you haven't updated, casting assumes you're free. If you mark yourself unavailable too liberally, you get skipped.
The sweet spot:
Block only firm conflicts. Leave everything else green. Your agent (if you have one) can manage your availability visibility too, but you should double-check after they make changes.
Special case:
If you're going overseas for an extended period, note that explicitly in your profile bio as well as the calendar — casting may otherwise assume the date block is shorter.
