How do I boost my visibility on Backstage?
Fill your profile completely, upload multiple headshots, add a real reel, keep your resume current, and turn on casting alerts for your type. The "Boost" paid feature helps but only on top of a strong profile.
Backstage has a paid "boost" feature, but the biggest visibility gains come from having a strong profile first.
Free things that actually matter:
- Complete profile. All fields filled out — height, weight, hair color, ethnicity, unions, training. Profiles with missing vitals don't show up in filtered searches.
- Multiple headshots — at least 3, tagged correctly (commercial, theatrical, character).
- At least one reel or self-tape clip. Profiles without any video get a tiny fraction of the views.
- Current resume. Update within 30 days of a new credit.
- Specific, honest skills. Casting searches by skill and your listed skills determine if you appear.
Paid boost:
Backstage offers a paid "boost" or premium placement feature — your profile appears higher in search results for a period of time. It can help, but:
- It only works if your profile is already strong. Boosted-but-incomplete profiles still get skipped.
- It's more valuable in competitive commercial markets than in smaller markets.
- Annual subscribers sometimes get boost credits included.
Set casting alerts:
Go to Settings → Notifications and set alerts for your type — age range, gender, ethnicity, union status, location. New breakdowns get pushed to you the moment they post, which is crucial because commercial breakdowns often close within hours.
A complete profile + smart alerts + early submissions beats a "boosted" sparse profile every time.
